Gouffre de Padirac
The Gouffre of Padirac is Europe’s most famous cave, attracting over three-hundred thousand visitors per year and over 23 million since its official opening in 1899 by Georges Leygues, France’s 87th Prime Minister. Following a descent into a massive crater (35 meters wide and 100 meters in depth), visitors embark on an underground boat trip along a narrow subterranean river. A walking tour then offers intimate views of gigantic stalactites, culminating with the famed 60 meter “Grande Pendeloque” that hangs by a thread over a “Lake of Rain”. Photographs inside the cave are not authorized. Price: Adults (12+) 12.00 €, children 8.50 €, under 4s free.
